Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Homily – August 15, 2021

Assumption Homily (B) 2021
Sunday, August 15th

INTRO:

Apparently, every Friday my dad would get paid, and at the end of his workday around 4 o’clock, in his suit and tie would pile us kids and my mom into the big boat of a car; a 1958 light blue MERCURY MONTEREY and we would drive up to the A&P grocery store and do the food shopping!

Each of three kids got to choose ONE ITEM that we would long for and eat! I would always go for the ANN PAGE Spanish bar cake….it has raisins in it which I LOVED!

When we would arrive home… the BIG JOB came as we children would have to CARRY IN all the groceries!

Just imagine this …. three kids bringing into the home all the goodies. We were excited, happy, and able to help!

Today, are you excited, happy, and able to help THE WORLD? I hope so!

We celebrate MARY and the catholic belief that she is assumed into heaven BODY & SOUL!

The GOSPEL surrounding this holy day is centered on Mary being pregnant with the world’s savior, the mother of my Lord. SHE IS CARRYING, not groceries, but JESUS, and she is excited, happy, and able to help the world as she greets Elizabeth! She wants to introduce to the world JESUS!

These Marian holy days are less about Mary and more about Jesus. Mary lives and acts as one who:
POINTS TO JESUS
GIVES THE WORLD OUR SAVIOR CHRIST THE LORD
And
Promotes His presence in our world to help the world to be saved!

She teaches us to do the same. We are to be so excited, so happy, and so willing to help the world become greater as we CARRY THE LORD within us. When we respond with AMEN to the “Body of Christ” we are consuming Him, His real presence, not a sign or a symbol of His presence, but His Body, Soul and Divinity
to affect us,
to change us
to move us

into His ways when we interact with the world around us, with the people of whom we spend time.

It is at that moment we CARRY THE LORD! A marvelous mysterious act of God; a miracle to receive; A responsibility to accept.

CONCLUSION

Carrying groceries is one thing to help at home, but carrying the LORD is but the greatest and most sublime, awe-inspiring help for our world that we can possibly do.

May your carrying of the BODY OF CHRIST bring you to eternal life!
