Easter Vigil Homily – April 16, 2022

Holy Saturday 2022

INTRO: I have always been rather good at finding things which have become lost. My mom used to call me “EAGLE EYES”!!

I have relied upon Saint Anthony all the time to help find things as well …

“TONY, TONY, LOOK AROUND
SOMETHING IS LOST AND NEEDS TO BE FOUND!”

Well, tonight we just heard that the holy women cannot find the body of JESUS to do the traditional anointing of his dead body.

These were dedicated women whose mission were to assist families of the deceased … offering to them this sacred ritual and freeing the families from the excessive cost of these perfumes and spices.
Thinking they would find HIM in the tomb they were greeted by the two men in dazzling garments and did hear these words:

“Why do you seek the LIVING ONE among the dead? He is not here but has been raised!”

In other gospel accounts, JESUS IS NOT FOUND as expected and Mary asks,
“They have taken Him from the tomb, and we do not know where they put Him!”

She SEEKS THE Lord in her life! And wants to find HIM as HE changed her life for the better.

And so do we want to find JESUS CHRIST in our lives all the time!

Tonight, (TODAY) and this whole EASTER SEASON is about finding that LIVING ONE in ourselves!

HE, THE LIVING ONE, is in you and always in our midst.

Just how do we FIND HIM?
My oldest niece just got engaged. It is so exciting for her and the families, but when she was dating KYLE, she wanted to spend as much time as possible with him.
Why?
Because she wanted to know him personally. She wanted to know what he liked and what he did not. She wanted to get to know his pet peeves and what his passions were. She wanted to know everything about him.
This is what happens when you love someone – you want as close, intimate, and personal of a relationship as you can.
The same goes with finding Jesus.
If you are a Christian, you are called to have a close, intimate, and personal relationship with him, and this begins here at Mass in the reception of holy communion.
CONCLUSION
The Holy Eucharist is your gift from HIM, and it is all about realizing HE does not want to leave you alone but wants you to find him here and begin that great relationship!
And, finding HIM at this altar of HIS SACRIFICE will be the beginning of your best relationship that lasts forever.
