Pastor Letter – Angel Scholarship Fund – Emailed March 25, 2022

Dear Parishioners,

I have been asked by the diocese to make my parishioners aware of this new opportunity for you to donate funds to the Angel Scholarship Fund. As you are aware, the tuition cost for all catholic elementary schools gets higher and higher annually. Our Bishop does not want to see families leave a catholic school for that reason. He and I are asking you if donating to this Angel Scholarship Fund would be of interest to you. It certainly is not mandatory, only optional. Both of us are aware of the MANY ASKS that donors receive and totally understand if this is not in your interest.
Support Catholic Education Through Ohio Tax Credits Your participation in the Angel Scholarship Fund strengthens our schools – and our future – in countless ways; and best of all, your thoughtful generosity makes a significant difference.

Through the Angel Scholarship Fund, you can now contribute funds that will be used to provide tuition assistance for students to attend our Catholic schools, and you will receive a 100% Ohio income tax credit of up to $750 against your 2022 state tax liability. In other words, the state of Ohio allows you to “spend” some of the state income taxes you must pay anyway to provide tuition assistance for students seeking an education in our Catholic schools. The Angel Scholarship Fund is a win-win-win for taxpayer donors, scholarship recipients, and our diocese.

How does this new program work? Donors can make undesignated contributions to the Angel Scholarship Fund, and the Angel Scholarship Fund can then award to any eligible student from any Catholic school, or donors can contribute designated funds to benefit students at a particular school. The Angel Scholarship Fund, like any SGO, is required to prioritize “low income” (under 300% of the poverty threshold) recipients, but otherwise the law does not place limits on which K-12 students can be served or the number of scholarships that can be awarded. This program holds tremendous potential for bolstering our efforts to ensure the viability of our Catholic schools and has the potential to benefit every Catholic school in the diocese.

If you need any further understanding of this new fund, please contact, Father Jim or Jeff Andrea at the Rectory 330-929-8361.

Many blessings,
Father Jim
