Pastor Letter – Capital Expenses Update – Emailed March 11, 2021

Dear Parishioners,

There is always a surprise with aging buildings and sometimes there is more than one surprise at the same time! I would be willing to bet this happens to you as well with your home. IHM buildings have had several surprises this late winter. The hard winter may have some impetus for our now needed capital expenses.

They are:

  1. Resealing copper gutter seams on the Rectory – $1,500.00
  2. Interior waterproofing of the Rectory basement wall systems requiring two sump pumps – $22,884.00
  3. Exterior waterproofing of the Church basement wall and excavation at the east rear entrance – $8,850.00
  4. Replacement of the sidewalk removed during Church basement waterproofing – $2,500.00
  5. Replacement of the Church Hall HVAC system – $11,500.00
  6. Replacement of the convent boiler – $$22,500.00

Never a dull day in the kingdom!
When it rains it pours!

What can you do?

Please continue your generosity in the weekly offertory through mailing, dropping off, or using the collection when in-person at Mass.

I am so proud and grateful of how our offertory has risen due to last fall and the Offertory Increase Program we held. I am also proud of your responsibility to make sure your offerings are either mailed into the Rectory or done on FAITH DIRECT. If you are interested in signing up for FAITH DIRECT please visit https://membership.faithdirect.net/OH405. And now, I have seen Mass attendance rise this month and completely LOVE seeing you “back in the pews”!

Secondly, please understand I am simply informing you of these capital improvements and am not asking for money from you as we have “unrestricted funds” available for these things. My IHM Finance Council advice has been to use our “unrestricted” funds in this immediate need. They also advise me to make sure our unrestricted funds do not completely deplete and should be replaced at some time so that IHM keeps a monetary level of at least 3 to 6 months expense reserve amount.

God is good, all the time.

Many blessings,
Father Jim
