Third Sunday of Advent – December 15, 2019

Third Sunday of Advent (A) 2019

INTRO: Now, I want to try something…..
“Sit up straight”!

It was all the time…. Our parents ……. telling us:
“To sit up straight.”
I am sure you’ve said it and or have done it when “corrected”!

My mom used to make my sister walk balancing a book on her head. Why in the world would she do that to her?

Both of these things were done for …….. Good POSTURE!

That’s why we say …. “Sit up STRAIGHT!” For good posture!! Or that’s why mom made the girls walk with their heads up …….for good posture.

Well, I would like to teach you all another good posture PRACTICE…. It’s what I call the good posture for a CHRISTIAN / CATHOLIC / and follower of JESUS.

LET IT BE DONE TO ME AS YOU SAY!

Ask: Who knows the story of MARY and the Annunciation?
Can you tell me what happened?

Angel Gabriel APPEARED
Frightened Mary
Told her that she was “blessed”

MARY WAS CONFUSED
DO NOT BE AFRAID
You have found favor with GOD

THEN … the angel explained she would have a son!!!

For her ….. What would be her feelings?
“You’ve got to be kidding!”
CONFUSED
What am I gonna do??
How will this all work out?

Don’t many of us HAVE THE UNEXPECTED / UNPLANNED situations to deal with???

Loss of job
A marriage gone awry
Sickness, in us or a loved one…. In a CHILD!
Death of a loved one
WHAT ARE SOME OTHERS???
And
Doesn’t that drive us CRAZY / ANGRY / CONFUSED / MAD??

But, Mary teaches us the new POSTURE…!!!!
What does she say and do?

LET IT BE DONE TO ME AS YOU SAY!
I could explain my UNEXPECTED departure from SAINT ANN as Pastor…. Happened on a DECEMBER 8th, 2009!!! Never saw it coming after 13 ½ years as Pastor I was OUT!!! Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

LET IT BE DONE TO ME AS YOU SAY does mean be strong… correct injustices… but in all things KEEP GOD A PART OF YOUR LIFE and REALIZE GOD never leaves us and HE IS WITH US in our confusions, etc…

CONCLUSION:

The best posture we can develop is LEAVING GOD IN CHARGE OF US. Don’t move away from Him when tough things occur!
