14th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A) 2020
INTRO:
I had a summer job while in the seminary and my boss always made his presence known. He was an exacting kind of boss, and not in the good way, employees were a bit frightened by him when he came to observe or comment on our work!
We all liked it when he WASN’T IN on several days during the summer!
The Pharisees in Jesus’s day were very similar in attitude. They unfortunately expressed themselves in high and mighty kinds of ways… they widened their phylacteries, blew trumpets when they performed “their rules” and stood on street corners for others to NOTICE THEM.
They also were committed to performing those 613 JEWISH rules of life and helped no other PHARISEES to accomplish the following of these rules! Every Pharisee was ON THEIR OWN!
So sad!
When Jesus speaks about the “little ones” he IS NOT referring to children… he is referring to people in His days that were opposite of the HIGH AND MIGHTY.
Like all of you are!!! YOU ARE: humble, charitable, giving, willing to be helpful to others, and willing to work together. You are the little ones!! And that is a good thing!
Unlike the Pharisees, Jesus invites you (REMINDS YOU) to “work with Him”… as He is SO willing to help all of you:
He doesn’t want you to feel that you are all alone
In this pandemic with masks and social distancing
He doesn’t want you to feel that you are all alone
In your saddened state of life because of family issues
He doesn’t want you to feel that you are all alone
In your efforts to grow up
That’s why he says; TAKE MY YOKE…
With JESUS working beside you, it’s not only EASY, but helpful, pleasant, worthy, and useful.
CONCLUSION
Jesus does focus on YOUR NEEDS. He is “humble of heart” which means HE DOESN’T make His authority felt, making you work ALL BY YOURSELF, but, ONLY WANTS to assist you and help you carry your burden!
That wasn’t the PHARISEES’S way, but, it definitely WAS CHRIST’S!
