2nd Sunday of Advent Homily – December 10, 2023

Second Sunday of Advent (B) 2023

INTRO:
How many of you HAVE CERTAIN WAY TO DO THE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS???

I always am criticized as to the way I do them!!

Has that criticism ever happen to you?
IN REALITY
ALL OF US are OPEN TO CRITICISM!

Is the criticism, right? Was it fair? Should it have been done?

As far as criticizing goes, I would say what matters most, is HOW we say things to others, and for many times in these kinds of situations of criticizing we SHOULD…. THINK BEFORE WE SPEAK!

The Advent season calls us to a repentance of sorts, a bettering of our behaviors and ONE IMPORTANT improvement is KIND CRITICIZING to:
Your family
Your employer
Your children
Your neighbors

Let us “get along” and improve the world with KINDNESS not using that FORCEFUL DEMANDING VOICE.

I remember my father … He would criticize the sports teams on TV……he would SCREAM, OUT LOUD at the TV!!!! criticizing them to the tenth degree when they did something poorly …

“They get paid MILLIONS of dollars, and they should know how to play!!!”

John the Baptist came to bring to OUR world a CHANGE IN OUR BEHAVIORS and it starts with each one of us embracing a changed personality in the image of Jesus Christ, WHOSE VOICE was calm, loving, and simple IN SPEAKING TO OTHERS.

CONCLUSION

As I said… this is an Advent season of REPENTANCE / a SEASON OF CHANGING our behaviors.

Think before we speak!
Before we criticize
And
USE SOFT KIND WORDS!
If so,
The change in the world will be astounding!
