Ascension Sunday 2023
INTRO:
Some of you have heard this story, but a couple of years ago…. on a Mother’s Day…. I received a “Mother’s Day” card!!!!!!!!!!!
It was from my older sister…who was organizing and cleaning out some “MEMORIBILIA” of my mom’s after she had died.
What she found were several pictures of me and mom together … on Mothers days of years gone by.
Very touching as you can imagine!
ALSO, included was.
In my mother’s hand script
Written on a very used piece of paper.
Her BROWNIE RECIPE.
Again…….so sweet!
So, one day all by myself in the rectory, I dug out that recipe, went to the store to buy all the ingredients and set myself to work.
BAKING THE BROWNIE’S
Before long the kitchen was filled with the aroma of baked chocolate brownies!
During the process of mixing, measuring, stirring, and baking, I couldn’t help but think of our lovely mother and so many wonderful memories.
I felt her presence.
I felt A CONNECTION
AND THAT IS THE POINT!
We all have connections to those in our lives that have gone before us and to those we may be seated next too! This is all beautiful and God has set that stage for us in the ASCENSION of JESUS CHRIST.
This is the day we celebrate the connection everyone has with Jesus. In the ASCENSION JESUS was preparing His church to remember him, to stay connected to Him all the days of our lives as He ascends into HEAVEN.
I will be with you always, until the end of the ages, until the end of time.
This world pandemic has brought so many CRAZY things and so we need to remember the primacy of God in them, and we need to remember this connection; I will be with you always, until the end of the ages, until the end of time.
We need to remember this more than ever in our lives.
Bring the ascended Lord into our minds now so that we can act with great patient endurance and responsible actions in this time of our lives not forgetting God’s preeminence in the world.
CONCLUSION
May Jesus connect with you, and may you connect with Him to find balance, charity, forgiveness, and hope as you receive Him in holy communion.
HE IS WITH US ALWAYS, UNTIL THE END OF THE AGE!
