Intro: QUESTION TIME … Congregation participation!
1. How many of you like to cook?
2. How many of you like to EAT?
3. How many of you have ever “waited on tables”?
4. How many of you eat out?
Obviously, no matter who you are in the crowd today most of you have been GUESTS at a dining table or restaurant… and some of you have been “WAITERS”!
Well … they are really not called “waiters” anymore … are they? They are called…. (everybody…. “SERVERS”).
Today you are BOTH: Guest and Server! …
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ teaches us that.
The church pronounces this in all its members that we are BOTH:
• a guest at the ALTAR and
• a SERVER for “others”
When we share this real presence of CHRIST.
When we leave this church today we ARE SUPPOSED TO; IMMEDIATELY “serve” someone!!!
Hmmmmmmmm….. Who will that be?? How do Catholics “serve one another”? How do we “serve”???
Well….
1. Daily we work, clean, listen to, and endlessly give of ourselves to the members of our family
But,
2. How about volunteering in the community??? I know some of you do that… and this EUCHARIST sharing has given you that INTEREST and INITIATIVE!!!
What about….
3. Making a home visit, similar to our EM’s to the homebound, but not necessarily always with communion
Perhaps today you will think about
4. Donating clothing and food to the poor
And maybe you can
5. Be a friend to the lonely one in your neighborhood or someone who is struggling with caring for the dying.
There are so many things to do in “serving others” having just received communion.
You know, that’s why there is “devotion” time after the reception of Holy Communion. Yes to ADORE GOD within you, but to listen for the voice of JESUS inspiring you to IMITATE His life of serving others in TODAY’S WORLD!
CONCLUSION
Every year the church has us all come together to celebrate this great MYSTERY,
-to praise God for His Son Jesus Christ made manifest in the substances of BREAD AND WINE AND
-to become better “servers”.
We are GUESTS at the ALTAR… God gives us His gift, but we are also “servers” having received His gift to go out into our homes and neighborhoods finding ways to “serve others”.
