CORPUS CHRISTI
THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
INTRO:
A high school student was walking down the street, past a house where a small child on a porch was S T R E C H I N G to reach the doorbell. No matter how hard the small child tried he could not reach it!!! The teenager called out: “Hold on I’ll give you a hand.”
Then the teenager climbed up to the porch,
Picked up the child so that he could reach the doorbell.
When the small child rang the bell…. he SMILED and said….
“NOW LET’S RUN!!!”
Cute story!
“Running” is a temptation that COULD come to us. Our busyness, our over-extended activities ALL of these at one time or another could suggest…running to get it all done!
So, we do:
RUN AROUND,
WE RUN HERE AND THERE AND EVERYWHERE,
WE GOTTA GET THIS IN AND THAT DONE!!
And doing this running around, could take our eyes OFF THE PRIZE! The prize of being Catholic and consuming the real presence of JESUS CHRIST in the substance of consecrated bread!
Today, CORPUS CHRISTI, The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is about,
NOT running around, but for savoring a moment,
S L O W I N G D O W N
And realizing that the church food is what sustains and strengthens you and me for the “run”.
This is our prize!
If you ask me to pick a place to eat…. I hem and haw…. should we go here or there,
BUT,
If you ask me to plan a party…I am on it right away!
The Apostles today need to plan a party if you will, the PASSOVER MEAL.
It is at this very meal that we are given “HIMSELF” THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN UP FOR YOU …for our “running” in life, we are given JESUS CHRIST in the substance of consecrated bread.
Sometimes I wonder…. “Does everyone realize this marvelous mystery?”
We put into ourselves THE ONE who can effect a change in our thoughts, words, and deeds once we leave the doors of our church.
No more judging others, but loving all others –
No more petty gripes with family members, but reconciling>
CONCLUSION
We are a blessed church, stemming from Apostolic times until today.
THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN UP FOR YOU!
