INTRO:
My Father was called:
DAD
Sometimes: DADDY
Or POPS
My mom of course called him JOHN, and He called my mom: PEACH
Everybody has got a name ……. A “given” name or a nickname!
The names of GOD are what we celebrate today!
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
It is Trinity Sunday
3 persons in ONE GOD
Our Catholic Teaching!
“Oh Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!”
AND on this day, we hear that the Apostles were to baptize all people in the NAME OF THE FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT and to teach them all that Jesus taught.
This Gospel story is titled the GREAT COMMISSION as the resurrected JESUS says to the Apostles …
“GO … DO WORK,
GO … DO MINISTRY,
MAKE DISCIPLES ….
BAPTIZE THEM and TEACH THEM!”
When we kids lived at home, we of course had chores to do…
Mine was to clean the basement!
It was the GREAT COMMISSION of our parents to …
GET US MOVING!!!
(Or to get us out of their hair!)
But, likewise, the church, YOU, and I, are given chores to do as well!!!
What do you suppose those chores are?
SIMPLY PUT:
Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul!
Love your neighbor as yourself!
Lately, loving your neighbor has NOT BEEN HAPPENING IN OUR WORLD. So many violent acts! So much destruction at the hands of God’s creation; men and women created in God’s image and likeness abusing their very nature.
I wish these things to STOP!
So many people JUDGE others in their minds and thoughts. Those judgements come over us and fill us with WRONG thoughts about people and their color or creed.
NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER, I was taught!
This GREAT COMMISSION of Jesus Christ was put into effect by the KINDEST and GENTLEST of human beings. Jesus went out to others, to lay hands on them to lift them up not to criticize them or disapprove of them or condemn them.
CONCLUSION
Our CHORES today are to get back on track and to live the way JESUS did and taught.
That is why you are here NOW …. To receive His real presence in this consecrated bread and to vow to become MORE like Him in our thoughts, words, and deeds.
So, let the CHORES COME … the GREAT COMMISSION … and we will do them each day in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
