Dear Parishioners,
I am sure you are aware of the delicate topic of politics and voting choices. The catholic church has a prohibition of making statements of support or opposition for a particular candidate, political party, or political action committees at any parish events (including Mass) or appear in any parish publication, parish operated website or be made through parish operated social media. Political signs should not be permitted on church property, although there are limited exceptions if the church is a polling place.
If you are interested in a “voter’s guide” please contact the USCCB www.usccb.org (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), the Ohio Catholic Conference, www.ohiocathconf.org or the Diocese of Cleveland www.dioceseofcleveland.org.
Just a reminder that it is easy to only show compassion for people who vote like you, but Christians do not have the privilege of stopping there; we are called to love everyone. That means loving people that you believe have un-loving beliefs/stances.
“Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth.”
Many Blessings,
Father Jim
