Second Sunday
Ordinary Time (A)

INTRO: Tell story of the Rabbi and the Guard

Once there was a rabbi,
A very poor Rabbi,
Who lived in Krakow, Poland…..he, his wife, and his 4 children,
They lived in a tiny hovel on a street called:
LOST ANGEL.

One night the poor Rabbi dreamed of great riches. He dreamed that underneath a bridge in the city of WARSAW, a treasure was buried!

When he awoke that morning, he excitedly told his wife and children about the dream. He decided to see if there was any truth to the dream, so he packed a bag of food and extra clothing and set out for the LONG journey from KRAKOW to WARSAW to find that bridge and perhaps discover a great treasure!

After many long days he did FIND the bridge… exactly as he dreamed….except for one thing:

There was a guard on the bridge, a sentinel, who paced back and forth at the entrance!!!!!!

The poor Rabbi,
Exhausted from his long journey…
Seeing the guard and not knowing what to do,
Fell asleep among the bushes near the bridge. Sometime later he was awakened by the guard,
“You, there, what are you doing here?”

A simple honest man, incapable of lying, the Rabbi explained that he had this dream that underneath that bridge there was a wonderful treasure and that he had travelled many miles to find it!

The guard looked astonished and began to say,

“That is very strange…….just last night I had a dream. I dreamt that in the city of KRAKOW, on a street called LOST ANGEL in a little hovel where a rabbi lives with his wife and 4 children ………….That buried behind the fireplace in that hovel was a GREAT TREASURE!!!!!
Tonight I leave for KRAKOW to find that treasure!”

SOMETIMES, the great treasure that is right in front of us………. is not always seen or experienced and causes us to look elsewhere or think about another kind of TREASURE!!

The real treasure that I am wanting you to think about is:
BEHOLDING THE LAMB OF GOD!!!

Certainly the consecrated bread and wine held up at mass for our acclamation and nourishment, but also, the LAMB OF GOD within each of us when we go about living in our daily lives, the persons next to us, and behind us. Each of us has CHRIST within us and are made in the image and likeness of God.
