Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)
INTRO: “LET YOUR YES MEAN YES AND YOUR NO MEAN NO”
Well, it just was VALENTINE”S Day…. and no I didn’t buy a VALENTINE’S DAY CARD, but, my oldest sister has a Valentine’s birthday…. So I was in the card shop looking for a card.
The clerk was “stocking” the cards while I was looking through them.
She began to tell me this story that a young man was seriously searching through ALL the Valentine’s Day cards the other day. He finally came up to her and said:
“I’m looking for your MOST BEAUTIFUL Valentine card …. Something that perfectly expresses my deepest feelings.”
So she went to a certain section of these cards and lifted out one that was beautifully embossed, trimmed with lace, and written with a beautiful scroll hand script!!!
She told him that she thought it was the loveliest one in the store and she read the inside to him:
TO MY ONE TRUE LOVE,
THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE,
THE SONG THAT FILLS MY HEART WITH JOY.
THE VERY IMAGE OF BEAUTY AND GRACE.
I LOVE YOU MORE THAN I CAN SAY!
She then told me the kid was thrilled, saying:
“That’s PERFECT.
It’s just what I want to say.
I will take FIVE (5) of them!!!!”
LOL
LET YOUR YES MEAN YES AND YOUR NO MEAN NO!
In the Gospel …. And yes there is A LOT there …. But, as I pair it down ….. I’m thinking that Jesus wants us to consider the weight and meaning of what we say and do in our lives!
Be authentic.
Don’t “flip flop”!
Be decisive and BOLD.
Don’t allow worldly opinions change your catholic Christian ethics and principles.
Jesus loves His church and ALL PEOPLE. This is His considered Sermon on the Mount!!! To teach us right ways.
He would want you to think clearly on what you truly believe, hold tightly to the values that you have been taught by Him and make sure your words, actions, and attitude reflect those values and beliefs at all times!
CONCLUSION
I cannot imagine what is going to happen to that LOVE-STRUCK young man,
but, hopefully we have learned to fully follow God’s ways being committed to saying and doing what God has taught us and if not … to seek out the merciful forgiveness that is so prevalent in our Catholic Church!
