INTRO: Let me ask a question or two….
1. Do you BELIEVE your mom is going to pick you up after school or do you TRUST that she will?
a. If you BELIEVE she will pick you up, you might still text her throughout the day to double-check …..
b. If you TRUST, you will simply show up at the pick-up spot!
Here’s another…
2. Do you BELIEVE you are going to the movies with your friends on Friday or do you TRUST that you are?
a. If you BELIEVE you have plans, you may try to confirm them throughout the week …..
b. If you TRUST you have plans, you just show up at the theatre!
Do you hear the difference?
There is a difference between BELIEVING in God and TRUSTING in God.
We can BELIEVE that God exists, that He is out there somewhere and is good – but, we will likely go about our day unsure of how He exists or even try and figure it out HOW He exists!
TRUSTING in God is being able to accept and follow His plan as our days, weeks, months, and years unfold. No need to figure GOD out with this kind of trust! With this way of life!
JESUS wants his Apostles and Followers to not only believe in Him, but, also to TRUST Him implicitly. To live that kind of TRUSTING LIFE!
That’s why Jesus told His followers that He would send an “ADVOCATE” a power greater than all, to help them live life to the fullest …. In TRUST!
I guess I am mellowing in my old age…..
I many times have worried way too much about this or that, making sure all things are in place,
Every “i” is “dotted and every “t” is crossed. And I would go crazy!!!
But, it is not that I am getting careless …. I have learned quietly to say, when I am experiencing the PULL to get all things together…
“Jim, it will all get done!”
And IT DOES.
I have developed a TRUST that a power greater than myself is present!
CONCLUSION
We, too, are reminded that we are not alone in our day in and day out experiences of life. We have that same “Advocate”, that same “Holy Spirit”, in whom to trust. All will be well!
