Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Homily – November 5, 2023

31ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A) 2023

Intro:

Last week when you were giving out candy on Halloween you saw “children” in a costume and many of them had their faces covered with masks!!!

In a church community we are supposed to be recognizable by others as living a good life…. With NO MASKS COVERING UP who we are.

We are supposed to be seen by others KNOWN for the excellent work we do.

LIKEWISE, at the end of our lives…. GOD is going to meet us, greet us and see us …. and
GOD must recognize us BY OUR GOOD WORKS, by the outward way we lived.

It seems to me Jesus was disappointed in the PHARISEES and SCRIBES because it was those two groups who were to teach everyone how to live well and according to the OLD TESTAMENT.

They were considered “leaders” of the church at that time, and they were not performing as they were meant to perform. They got corroded with their own importance. Thus, Jesus had to create new “leaders,” and these are called “APOSTLES”!!!

The leaders of the church want to be known for:
MERCY TOWARD OTHERS
MAKING PEACE IN DIFFICULT TIMES with race, creed, life choices others make
TAKING CARE of our catholic church and its teachings
LIVING A SELFLESS LIFESTYLE

Basically, living these beatitudes that JESUS teaches!!!

When we or any of our church leaders say “we are a baptized Catholic” then our “COSTUME” must be recognized as one LIKE JESUS CHRIST.

CONCLUSION
Feel the embrace of JESUS CHRIST leading you along your journey of life, wanting you to embrace the beatitude lifestyle that will be everyone’s salvation!
