27th Sunday in Ordinary Time ( C )

INTRO: How about you, did you ever have to “HIRE” someone?

Then you know that in the hiring process it is important to allow the person … the one considering the job “to talk”. You can find out a lot about a person if they just talk and talk, while you listen.

Learning a lot about someone whom you consider to hire helps you feel confident in selecting the perfect “candidate”.

LET THE PERSON TALK is the key!

So today, in on section of LUKE’S gospel:

“The Apostles said to the Lord, increase our faith!”

What the Apostles were really asking was to become more familiar with Jesus. They wanted to know more and more about him. They were saying, in so many words,
“TALK TO ME, JESUS!”
“TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOURSELF!”

They weren’t really hiring him ………. But, they were trying to BOND WITH HIM when they said: “Increase our faith!”

They wanted to KNOW this “leader” if they were gonna follow Him. If they were going to leave everything they wanted to be sure if Jesus was the right one to follow.

So they ask:
INCREASE OUR FAITH,

Or, in other words, INCREASE OUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOU. LET US HAVE A DEEPER relationship with you.

Today, people should be saying:

I got to have more of a friendship with Jesus
If only I had more of a friendship with Jesus

I believe you all heard it in today’s Gospel, the disciples/apostles were asking to have their faith increased, but, in reality they were basically asking to have their friendship with Jesus increased.

And Jesus says;
GREAT

Thus, the story of the mustard seed, which is the smallest of seeds and when planted a surprisingly HUGE long root system is created…its scientifically miraculous and the tree is HUGE!

CONCLUSION:

So, Catholics, we should always be LISTENING TO JESUS whether through reading the Bible, His WORDS, or in humble contemplation.

We should never give up on wanting to:
INCREASE OUR FRIENDSHIP WITH JESUS.

Great things happen in our world when our friendship with Jesus grows larger and larger.

Listen to Him.
