Pentecost Sunday – May 20, 2018

Pentecost Sunday (B) 2018

INTRO: Did you ever have one of those good days……when ALL IS GOING ALONG SMOOTHLY…..
All is working out the way it is supposed to……
Everything is “flowing smoothly”?

Here’s hoping for all of us to have many of these kinds of days!

My niece Madeline just ran a ½ marathon in Nashville, Tenn. supporting St. Jude’s Research.
She talked about being in the “FLOW”!! ??? I had to look that up.

“FLOW IS A STATE OF BEING WHEN WE ARE COMPLETELY FOCUSED AND FULLY IMMERSED IN WHAT WE ARE DOING. IN FLOW OUR WORK SEEMS EFFORTLESS. CREATIVITY GOES INTO OVERDRIVE. WE FEEL INSPIRED. AND MOTIVATION SPRINGS FORTH FROM WITHIN!”

Now I want to be clear and you understand that the “FLOW” is NOT something YOU MAKE HAPPEN. You DON’T DO IT…
IT “DOES” YOU!

You don’t find the “flow”…… the “flow” finds you and “carries” you… !!!
AND, when you find yourself in the “flow”, it feels like it has always been there, always available to you!

This is the day of PENTECOST, where the SPIRIT of GOD, the PARACLETE finds the community, blows through the community…giving all the “flow” of compassion, unity and PEACE! The Apostles received that flow way back then…….and so did you and I at our baptism and again in CONFIRMATION.

I could ask… “Do you feel it, now”? Do you feel the “flow”? Probably most of us would honestly say, “NO”! But it IS THERE, it is just that we are probably too busy with many things… human life typically trumps spiritual life many times.

Believe me…. The HOLY SPIRIT has found you and wants you in the “flow”. In what way you may be thinking…???

Well, you heard that we are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites…. Perhaps this indicates the best kind of “flow”…

I always translate those communities as we today in 2018 are a mixed race, a mixed color, a mixed creed. And the CHRISTIAN “flow”, the social justice “flow” should be that it doesn’t matter that we have this MIX in our world. Our attitudes and conversations with “the mixed race, color, and creed should FLOW charitably and with ease to all.

JESUS always wanted unity… we are not perfect yet at this, but, it can start with you and me… in the “flow” of compassion, unity and peace.

CONCLUSION:

We are a blessed church community, to be able to gather each weekend and receive the real presence of JESUS CHRIST. He will mold us into His image and be in the “flow”!
