Easter Sunday Homily – March 31, 2024

Easter 2024

INTRO: Are you an “explainer”?

You know if someone asks you what you did to make that delicious meal, you tell them! And then they know how!
OR,
When someone asks for directions to a certain place, you tell them! And then they know how to get there!

Well, in the EASTER season the church asks that each of us become “learners” or believers” in what was explained to us, namely that Jesus rose from the dead, that Jesus had a bodily resurrection!

Let me explain…….

Mark recounts certain details about the events of Easter morning.

Easter morning was a shocking and confusing time for the disciples of Jesus and the holy women.
There was a great deal of running back and forth to the tomb to verify reports and investigate as to what happened.

Unfortunately, these holy women and disciples were not celebrating the bodily resurrection of Jesus which had been told and explained to them by Jesus beforehand.

Instead, they were having DISTRUST, DISBELIEF, FEAR, AND CONFUSION!! They did not understand what had been taught them from Jesus during his public ministry.

How often in life have we responded to something spectacular by saying:
“That cannot be true!!”
“No way!!”
“I cannot believe that!!”

This EASTER mystery of a bodily resurrection of Jesus is true and celebration of it is first and proper. That is why you are here tonight.

Sure, we cannot fully understand this bodily resurrection mystery of our faith, but that does not matter. We do not have to understand it and our world should not make us falter in our lack of fully understanding what God has done in the person of Jesus Christ.

We are here to celebrate JESUS.

Remember, that death and bodily resurrection of His OPENDED THE GATES OF HEAVEN for us! This is what we celebrate. God’s gift of heaven for us through His son Jesus Christ.

We now can be united with God at the time of our deaths. This is our life plan: to receive the gift of eternal life in heaven with God given to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION:

Now is not that something to celebrate?

HAPPY EASTER!
