Pastor Letter – Lent 2020 – February 23, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

Lent is right around the corner and that means three Masses on Ash Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

8:00am
9:30am (with the school children)
7:00pm

PLEASE NOTE: There will be a SPECIAL COLLECTION at each of these Masses whereas all the offerings will go to support FEEDING THE HUNGRY, the HOT MEAL program that we participate in at Saint Bernard’s! That program has been going on for several years now. Again, please be prepared to “give alms” for the poor and needy in our area at these Ash Wednesday Masses.

Lent also mean STATIONS OF THE CROSS every Friday at 7:00pm. This is a beautiful prayerful tradition also dating back several years in the Catholic Church.

THE LITTLE BLACK BOOKS will be offered again for your at home spiritual reading and action.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC has for us THE BEST LENT EVER program where your emails receive daily inspirations on the lives of the saints! To sign up simply visit https://dynamiccatholic.com/best-lent-ever.

HOLY WEEK likewise has beautiful services planned.

+ On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus’s royal entrance into the city of Jerusalem with the blessing and holding of palm branches!

+ Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening celebrates the Institution of the Eucharist and of the ordained priesthood. It commemorates Jesus washing the feet of His Apostles and Jesus be taken from the Garden of Gethsemane for crucifixion.

+ On Good Friday we journey with the Lord, the innocent servant of God, who has taken our sins upon himself as He walks the path to Calvary.

+ During the Easter Vigil we celebrate all that God has done for us. We gather in darkness because we are no longer afraid of it. We listen to many Scripture readings of the history of our salvation. We baptize, confirm, and bring into full communion the adults of RCIA.

I am looking forward to this great season.

Many blessings,
Father Jim
