Pastor Letter – Ministry for the Needy – March 8, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I am amazed every time I am able to attend the Ministry for the Needy meetings which are weekly, Wednesday evenings, in the convent building.

First seeing our stocked pantry from the many items that you provide when asked, such as spaghetti sauce, paper towels, and toilet paper; items that are always in demand, brings a satisfied and grateful look to my face because IHM provides for the needy so well! The Ministry for the Needy does use the AKRON FOOD BANK to stock its shelves as well!

Secondly, listening to the many needs that come to this group for discussion through phone calls and visitors to the main office during the week is revealing as to the signs of the times! IHM’s Ministry for the Needy is known for helping with rent, utility payments, and food when there are dire circumstances. The Ministry does have certain perimeters set in place to graciously and prudently take care of ones needs.

Many of you reading this letter have generously included in your weekly offertory to the parish a second envelope that is restricted especially for the needy. These resources that you provide are so valuable as we at IHM are committed to serving the poor and this account helps accomplish IHM’s generosity to others in need! Thank you so very much.

If you didn’t see it in the bulletin at the end of January, I want you to know that:

519 families were provided with food last year (2019) which is roughly 9 families each week and most of them are different families! That is a lot of groceries and paper products.
105 families were assisted with utility payments which is roughly 2 families per week!
54 families were helped with rent which is roughly 1 per week!

If anyone is interested in learning more about the Ministry for the Needy please call me (330) 929-8361 or email me fatherjim@ihmcfo.org as many hands, make light the work!

Many blessings,
Father Jim
