The Most Holy Trinity Homily – June 4, 2023

Trinity Sunday 2023

INTRO: Everybody’s got a name ……. A “given” name or a nickname!

My Father was called:
DAD
Sometimes: DADDY
Or POPS

My mom of course called him JOHN
And He called my mom: PEACH

The names of GOD
Is what we celebrate today! God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

“Oh Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!”

I was a very impressionable and gullible young student at our NUN-FILLED Catholic elementary school. When I was taught that you better never use the name of the Lord thy God in vain, and by golly, if I heard someone SAY that name IN VAIN… it was OH NO SOMETHING BAD IS GONNA HAPPEN to that person!!!

My mom and dad were “CRAZY CATHOLICS”!!

Do you know what a crazy Catholic does????

They don’t swear or use bad language, but, when they get angry, they say this:

JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH!!!
Crazy Catholics

But the name of JESUS, when we say it … or the name of G O D when we address GOD in prayer is to:
• Bring comfort,
• Consolation,
• Satisfaction,
• Peace and
• Assistance.

People use all different names for GOD when we pray, and that is OKAY!

• Oh God, you are the source of all-good……..
• Jesus son of David have pity on me………..
• Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful………
• Our Father who art in heaven…………..

CONCLUSION

When we pray using GOD’S NAME, we VENERATE GOD! And isn’t that what any Catholic and Christian should be about EVERYDAY…venerating GOD!
