28th Sunday in Ordinary Time 2024 (B)
INTRO:
Many may at first think that the main character in this Gospel is the man who ran up to Jesus. Well, I believe the MAIN CHARACTER in this weekend’s Gospel is.
GOD’S POWER
for nothing is impossible for God.
Let me explain why God’s Power is our main character….
Scripture stories are meant to lead us, inspire us, teach us, and guide us. They are meant for THE COMMUNITY. MOSTLY, they were written to begin and form a community!
God wants us formed in the knowledge that HE NEVER GIVES UP ON US, even when we give up on Him. God has POWER to get us! All things are possible for GOD! And God wants all of us to possess eternal life.
You see, “the man’s face fell, and he went away very sad.” TRUE! We are all left with the thought…OKAY he is a gonner…no eternal life for him. He is too wealthy. He will never get in! He will never possess eternal life!
No… be careful not to think too literally.
I do not believe that this is the end of the story. I believe in God’s power to CHANGE US especially when we look away from Him (as the man did).
The story ends with the HOPE ….
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE FOR GOD”
Yes, we do get BLINDED, BUSY, OCCUPIED and in a way “walk away sad” from God. I have heard it. Some of us get VERY headstrong.
-there is no such thing as a GOD
-where is God in all this craziness?
-I do not need institutionalized religion
Well, it is not the end of the story for those that think like this and walk away as that poor guy…….
I imagine that the God inside that man and us GET’S him and us at some point to re-think the most important relationship we have in life. God will cause us to change our alienation from Him to closeness with Him. Conversion happens all the time.
CONCLUSION:
GOD’S POWER WILL GET YOU AND I, for nothing is impossible for GOD!
